January is National Get Organized Month!

We are in the last week of January which begs the question, how are those New Year’s Resolutions coming along?

Top resolutions include categories like

  • Eating healthier
  • Losing weight
  • Finding a new job
  • Spending more time with family and friends

All important resolutions, but also ones we’ve heard time and time again. Did you know that…

January is National Get Organized Month!

Getting organized. Easier said than done huh? We imagine whoever nominates these months chose the beginning of the year to celebrate organization to get your home off on the right foot. We all know clearing out the clutter helps us breathe a little easier and let’s face it, unless we are moving locations consistently, stuff has a tendency to pile up.

Common Household Clutter Hotspots:

So, how can a water restoration company help you get you organized? We have a few ideas!

Paper

It’s not officially been confirmed how your kitchen table, your desk, and every nook and cranny can fill up with so much paper. It gets EVERYWHERE and can turn into a real headache when you can’t find anything. Don’t have any ideas how to get started? Check out your local stores for great home filing systems. They really help bring all that important paperwork together in one place, but out of sight.

Still need ideas of how to utilize your space? Look no further than Pinterest for some fantastic home organization tips.

Storage Rooms

These may not be the first thing you think of to organize. After all, when you came home from the store, you didn’t trip over a bunch of boxes like you did with your kid’s shoes. However, chances are your storage room has a collection of everything from holiday decorations, kids’ crafts from years ago, and sentimental collector sets from your grandma you don’t know quite what to do with. Maybe it’s just us being in the fire and water restoration business, but we’ve seen a lot of situations that could have mitigated damage to belongings by being properly stored. Especially since basements are notorious for their storage capabilities…. As well as their basement flooding capacity.

How so?

Protect important paperwork like kid’s crafts and old photographs. Take them out of that cardboard box and put them into a plastic bin. You don’t need to get super fancy, but a simple fix like this can go a long way in case of water damage. Plastic beats cardboard… every time.

Make a Charity Run

Don’t have time to go through every closet to collect ALL that needs to be given away? Then don’t! Utilize that good ole’ time management strategy of 15-20 minutes increments to eat away at a giant elephant project. Pick a starting point. Go through it one 15 minute increment at a time until you have it the way you want. Choose next target. Repeat. Don’t let yourself feel the guilt if you don’t complete something all in one go! The point of a resolution is supposed to be for an entire year, not just one month.

Bonus Tip: Document those it your giveaways as you just might be able to write them off next tax season!

There ya have it. Now go get organized and keep up with those personal resolutions done for 2017!

  • “My home was damaged by 2 hail storms and water began leaking down the walls and settling on the floor. I tried 5 different water mitigation companies and couldn’t even get a call back. My insurance company recommended Rainbow Int. and they had 2 guys out to check out the situation within 2 hours of my initial call. My insurance company recommended Rainbow so they are handing all of the billing directly.”

  • “We have a ton of visitors scheduled this summer so I let Dave, the site manager, know that they only had a week to get everything done. The crew was first rate and the house is completely dry and ready for construction to begin on time. Instead of just tidying up my home with a shop vac, as many contractors will do, they sent out a professional cleaning team to ensure that everything is perfect.”

  • “Our vacation home in Conifer suffered major water damage when a pipe fitting failed and water spilled onto the main floor for 5 days before my neighbor noticed it. Hard wood floors ruined on main floor, downstairs carpet and drywall destroyed. Rainbow Int. was very quick to respond and did an outstanding job cleaning up the mess. They were prompt, they were thorough, and they kept me in the loop the whole way, even though I was 1000 miles away in California. If you have water damage and you want it cleaned up quickly, I highly recommend Rainbow Int.”
